ABSTRACT

This study examines the impact of educational resources on teachers’ productivity in selected secondary schools in Buea, Cameroon. Educational resources, including textbooks, teaching aids, and technological tools, are essential for effective teaching and can significantly influence teachers’ ability to deliver quality education. The research aims to determine how the availability and quality of these resources affect teachers’ productivity and, ultimately, student outcomes.

A mixed-method research design was employed, incorporating quantitative surveys to assess resource availability and teacher productivity, along with qualitative interviews with teachers and school administrators. The study focused on evaluating the types of educational resources available in the schools and their direct impact on teaching effectiveness and efficiency.

The findings reveal that adequate and high-quality educational resources positively affect teachers’ productivity. Schools with better access to textbooks, teaching aids, and technology reported higher levels of teacher engagement and more effective lesson delivery. Teachers in these schools were found to be more productive, demonstrating improved lesson planning, increased student interaction, and enhanced instructional methods. Conversely, schools with limited resources faced challenges such as reduced teaching effectiveness and lower teacher morale.

Teachers and administrators highlighted the importance of continuous investment in educational resources to support teaching and learning. Challenges such as inadequate funding and outdated materials were identified as barriers to maximizing teachers’ productivity.

The study concludes that providing sufficient and modern educational resources is crucial for enhancing teachers’ productivity in secondary schools. Recommendations include increasing investment in educational resources, updating existing materials, and ensuring equitable distribution across schools. These measures can help improve teaching effectiveness and contribute to better educational outcomes in Buea.
