Abstract

This study assesses the effectiveness of electronic Human Resource Management (e-HRM) practices at the National Refining Company (SONARA) in Limbe, Cameroon. With the growing importance of technology in business operations, many organizations are transitioning from traditional HR management systems to electronic platforms. This shift is aimed at improving efficiency, reducing costs, and enhancing overall HR service delivery. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the implementation of e-HRM at SONARA and to determine its impact on HR processes and organizational performance.

The study adopts a descriptive research design, utilizing both qualitative and quantitative methods. Data were collected through structured questionnaires distributed to 100 employees, as well as in-depth interviews with HR personnel. The key areas of focus include e-recruitment, e-training and development, e-performance management, and e-payroll systems. Statistical tools were used to analyze the data and to identify the strengths and weaknesses of e-HRM practices at SONARA.

Findings indicate that the implementation of e-HRM practices at SONARA has had a positive effect on HR efficiency and employee satisfaction. The e-recruitment process has significantly reduced the time required for hiring, while e-training platforms have enhanced the accessibility and effectiveness of employee development programs. The study also reveals improvements in the accuracy and timeliness of payroll processing due to the adoption of electronic systems. However, challenges such as system reliability, user resistance, and inadequate training on e-HRM platforms have limited the full potential of these practices.

The study concludes that while e-HRM practices at SONARA have contributed to improved HR operations, there is still room for enhancement. To further improve the effectiveness of e-HRM, the study recommends continuous training for both HR staff and employees, upgrades to the e-HRM systems to ensure reliability, and strategies to manage resistance to technology adoption. These measures will help maximize the benefits of electronic HR practices and contribute to the overall performance of the organization.
