ABSTRACT

This project was aimed at developing in  online Blood Bank Management System. The entire project has been developed while focusing on the distributed client/server computing technology. The Blood Donation Agent creates an E-Information about the donor and organization which are related to blood donation. The system allows Blood donors and organizations who want to be part of the site to register them. The system is made to help patients in need of Blood to request for it.

The project has been planned having the view of distributed architecture, with centralized storage of the database using the constructs of MySQL Server. All the user interfaces has been designed using the ASP.Net technologies. The database connectivity is planned using the “SQL Connection” methodology. The standards of security and data protective mechanism have been given a big choice for proper usage. The application takes care of different modules and their associated reports, which are produced as per the applicable strategies and standards that are put forwarded by the administrative staff. The entire project is developed keeping in view the distributed client server computing technology, in mind.

The specification has been normalized up to 3NF to eliminate all the anomalies that may arise due to the database transaction that are executed by the general users and the organizational administration. The user interfaces are browser specific to give distributed accessibility for the overall system. The basic constructs of table spaces, clusters and indexes have been exploited to provide higher consistency and reliability for the data storage. The MySQL server 2000 was a choice as it provides the constructs of high-level reliability and security. At all proper levels high care was taken to check that the system manages the data consistency with proper business rules or validations. The database connectivity is planned using the latest “SQL Connection” technology provided by Microsoft Corporation. The authentication and authorization is crosschecked at all the relevant stages.

CHAPTER ONE

1.0. INTRODUCTION

Centralized blood bank management system (BBMS) had been developed in previous years but is highly inadequate. The existing BBMS’s are mere storage systems that are mostly unusable by the hospital workers. They focus more on storage rather than coordinating management and operational activities and therefore are still yet to be accepted by the establishments. As you go into this paper, you will be introduced to new solutions that we offer after a careful study of relevant researches and documents.

1.1. Background of the Study

For hospitals, a blood bank known as blood collection center also is an area in which collected blood bags are stored and preserved for future use in blood transfusion services. Blood transfusion is a medical operation where a patient requires blood or blood products as a life saving measure. This project is going to develop a Centralized blood bank management system for Hospitals in the BAMENDA Metropolis. The main purpose of the project is to handle and maintain Online Based blood bank management system. The system manages the blood transfusion process starting from donor registration, storing blood in blood bank and distribution of blood for the client hospitals. This project is intended to provide information about the availability of blood in emergency conditions their respective locations. This is to help donors to be able to gather volunteers for blood bank and hospitals send request to get blood from blood bank. This project can manage blood types, employees, donors for the system. The System shows the total amount of blood inside the stock for efficient management of blood bank. The system is mainly going to develop web based blood donor reservation, blood expiration management, and client and manage the system as a whole. The web based database application system will be used for the web based blood bank management systems as a means to advertise the blood donation events to the public in order to rise up the public awareness on the events and at the same time allows the public to make online reservation on their desire session, This project has a plane to automate the blood and donor management system for the Hospitals blood bank management system to produce better and efficient record management. Most blood banks are still running manual system in its processes. The lack of proper documentation may endanger patients’ health due to the possibility of having contaminated blood bags. Contamination happened when there is an incomplete donors’ medical history record and the blood bags’ shelf life is not monitored properly. Hence, a web-based blood bank management system might be needed to address these issues and problems encountered to ensure blood transfusion safety. The main aim of this study is to offers such a cross platform web interface which will let anybody to access the detail contact of potential blood donors around the required location.

1.2. Description of Research Problem Statement

Despite advances in technology, today’s blood bank systems are running in manual system. As such, there is a prevalent problem in the availability of needed blood types. For instance, when a person needs a certain type of blood and this type are not available in the hospital, family members send messages through social media to those who can donate to them and this process takes longer than the life of the patient to the most dangerous. In addition, it seems that there is lack of proper documentation about blood donors and its medical history. This may lead to blood bag contamination and may affect the blood transfusion safety. With the manual System, there are problems in managing donors detail, blood components stock details and blood request details. Hospital, patients, blood bank staff and doctors No immediate service, manually managing blood, waiting queue of patients and not secure record. This study aims to implement online bank management system in other to enhance blood transfusion safety.

1.3. Research questions and objectives

1.3.1 Research questions.

How online bank management system does help in blood transfusion safety?

1.3.2. Secondary

1.3.2 Objectives

 General Objective

This applied research aims to design, develop and implement online blood bank management system to facilitate blood transfusion process.

Specific Objectives

This web-based application aims:

  • To enables users to see available blood online at home without going far apart.
  • To avoid multiple records of the same data
  • To allow good documentation about the donor and its blood donation activities.

Secondary question

  • What are the key features and functionalities that are most important to blood donors when using an online blood bank and donor management system?
  • How can an online blood bank and donor management system be designed to ensure that donated blood is efficiently and effectively distributed to patients in need?
  • What are the most effective marketing and outreach strategies for promoting an online blood bank and donor management system to potential donors and recipients?
  • How can an online blood bank and donor management system be integrated with existing healthcare systems and infrastructure to ensure seamless coordination and communication among healthcare providers, blood banks, and donors?

What are the most common barriers to blood donation and how can an online blood bank and donor management system be designed to address these barriers and encourage more people to donate blood?
