ASSESSMENT OF DISTRIBUTION AND CHANNEL SELECTION PRACTICES IN BRASSERIES DU CAMEROUN
ABSTRACT
Distribution and channel selection are vital components of a firm’s supply chain management, influencing product availability and customer satisfaction. This study assesses the distribution and channel selection practices in Brasseries du Cameroun, a leading beverage company. The research aims to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of these practices and how they impact the company’s market reach, sales, and customer satisfaction.
The study employs a mixed-method approach, combining quantitative data from sales reports and qualitative data from interviews with Brasseries du Cameroun’s distributors, retailers, and logistics personnel. The data is analyzed to determine the strengths and weaknesses of the current distribution strategies, focusing on channel selection, transportation efficiency, inventory management, and overall customer service.
Findings indicate that Brasseries du Cameroun uses a multi-channel distribution system, including wholesalers, retailers, and direct distribution to key accounts like supermarkets and restaurants. This system allows wide market penetration, but there are significant challenges in channel coordination. Some distributors face delays in product delivery due to inadequate transportation infrastructure and supply chain bottlenecks. Additionally, retailers report issues with stockouts, particularly during high-demand periods.
The analysis also reveals that channel selection is influenced by geographical factors and customer segmentation. Urban areas benefit from more frequent deliveries and a wider variety of products, while rural areas experience inconsistent supply, affecting customer loyalty. The study further identifies issues in communication between the company and distributors, leading to inefficiencies in meeting market demand promptly.
To enhance distribution efficiency, the study recommends optimizing the transportation network through better route planning and investing in modern logistics technologies. Improving communication and coordination between Brasseries du Cameroun and its distributors will ensure timely deliveries and reduce stockouts. Furthermore, channel selection practices should be refined by adopting a more data-driven approach, ensuring that distribution decisions are based on real-time demand and market trends.
In conclusion, while Brasseries du Cameroun’s current distribution and channel selection practices have allowed for significant market coverage, there are areas for improvement, particularly in logistics and rural distribution. Implementing the recommended strategies would increase efficiency, enhance customer satisfaction, and boost overall sales performance.
