Abstract

This study explores the effect of organizational culture on change management at the Buea Council in Cameroon. Organizational culture shapes how employees perceive and respond to changes within an institution. A strong and adaptive culture can facilitate smooth transitions, while a rigid culture may hinder the change process. Effective change management requires understanding and aligning organizational culture with the goals of change initiatives.

The research uses a case study approach, gathering data through employee surveys and management interviews. It examines the role of values, norms, communication practices, and leadership styles in influencing change management at the Buea Council. The study assesses how these cultural factors either support or obstruct change implementation and its impact on organizational performance.

Initial findings indicate that a flexible and open culture at the Buea Council positively affects change management. Employees are more receptive to new policies and innovations when they feel supported and involved in the decision-making process. In contrast, a hierarchical or resistant culture creates barriers to change, resulting in delays and reduced employee morale. The study also highlights that clear communication and inclusive leadership are crucial for successful change management.

In conclusion, organizational culture plays a significant role in the success of change management. A supportive and adaptive culture enables smoother transitions and improved performance. Recommendations include fostering open communication, promoting employee participation, and aligning leadership styles with cultural values. These strategies will help the Buea Council improve its approach to change management.
