Abstract

Strategic planning plays a pivotal role in determining the success and performance of organizations, particularly in dynamic industries such as event planning. This study examines the effects of strategic planning on the organizational performance of event planning firms in Buea, Cameroon. The research explores how the development and implementation of strategic plans influence key performance indicators such as customer satisfaction, revenue growth, operational efficiency, and market share.

The study adopts a descriptive research design, combining quantitative and qualitative methods to provide a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between strategic planning and organizational performance. A structured questionnaire was distributed to managers and employees of selected event planning firms in Buea.

The questionnaire covered various aspects of strategic planning, including goal setting, environmental analysis, resource allocation, and performance monitoring. In addition, in-depth interviews were conducted with business owners and managers to gather qualitative insights on their strategic planning processes and the challenges they face in implementing these strategies.

Findings from the study reveal that firms with well-defined strategic plans consistently perform better than those without formal planning processes. Specifically, companies that engage in regular market analysis, set clear objectives, and allocate resources effectively report higher levels of client satisfaction, increased revenue, and enhanced operational efficiency. Strategic planning enables these firms to anticipate changes in the market environment, adjust to client needs, and respond to competitive pressures more effectively.

Moreover, firms that involve their employees in the planning process tend to experience higher levels of employee engagement and commitment, which positively affects overall performance. Employees who understand the company’s strategic direction are more motivated to contribute towards achieving organizational goals. On the contrary, firms that lack strategic planning frameworks often struggle with inefficiencies, inconsistent service delivery, and poor financial performance.

The study also highlights several challenges faced by event planning firms in Buea regarding strategic planning. Key challenges include limited access to financial resources, inadequate management expertise, and difficulty in forecasting market trends due to the volatile nature of the event planning industry. Despite these obstacles, the research shows that even small-scale firms benefit from strategic planning when properly executed.

In conclusion, the research underscores the significant impact of strategic planning on organizational performance in the event planning sector in Buea, Cameroon. Event planning firms that invest time and effort into developing and implementing effective strategic plans are better positioned to achieve sustainable growth and maintain a competitive edge. The study recommends that firms enhance their strategic planning practices by conducting regular market analyses, setting realistic goals, and involving key stakeholders in the planning process.
