Abstract

This study was designed to examine the effects of ‘Teacher’s Incompetency on Students Academic Performance in Secondary schools in the Buea Municipality. Students of two secondary schools namely; Frankfils Comprehensive College Bakweri Town and Government High School Bomaka, Buea made up the respondents. The investigation started with the formulation of research question to guide the researcher.The survey research design was used for the study. The sample size of the study was made up of 100 students from two secondary school mentioned above selected through the stratified random sampling technique from the entire population.  A questionnaire was the most appropriate instrument the researcher considered in his investigation.Data were collected through administration of a questionnaire to the selected respondents. Descriptive statistic was adopted to analyze and represent the data collected from the respondents. Considering the answers to the research questions, the findings revealed that; Teacher’s Class Effectiveness, Teacher’s Qualification and Direct Satisfaction of students help to improve students’ Academic Performance.It was recommended that teacher’s should avoid focusing on a particular section of the class or particular students that are hyperactive in the classroom. Teachers should inculcate different learning styles that suit the different types of learners in the classroom and ensure an effective mastery of content knowledge.Teachers should always use positive reinforcement since it motivates students to be active in class and boosts their self-confidence. Conclusions and suggestions for further research were also made.
