ABSTRACT
This study examines the relationship between employees’ cultural fit and their perception of organizational culture at Musango Bus Service, Buea, Cameroon. Organizational culture plays a key role in employee satisfaction, performance, and retention. This research investigates how well employees align with the company’s values, norms, and practices. It also explores the impact of cultural fit on employees’ perception of the overall work environment and organizational effectiveness.
A mixed-method research approach was used. Qualitative data was collected through interviews with employees and management at Musango Bus Service. The interviews aimed to understand employees’ views on the company’s culture and their sense of belonging. A quantitative survey was also conducted, assessing factors such as employee engagement, job satisfaction, and alignment with organizational values. The study also reviewed relevant literature on organizational culture and cultural fit, particularly in African business environments.
The findings indicate that employees’ cultural fit strongly influences their perception of the organization’s culture. Employees who identified with the company’s values and practices reported higher job satisfaction and engagement. They also perceived the organizational culture as supportive and inclusive. Conversely, employees with lower cultural fit experienced challenges adapting to the work environment. These employees reported feeling disconnected from the company’s goals and experienced lower levels of motivation. The study also found that leadership plays a significant role in shaping employees’ perceptions of organizational culture. Effective communication and leadership alignment with cultural values contributed to positive employee experiences.
The study concludes that fostering a strong cultural fit is essential for improving employee engagement and satisfaction at Musango Bus Service. The company should focus on better alignment between recruitment practices and its core values. This will help attract employees who resonate with the organizational culture. Additionally, enhancing communication about cultural values and providing leadership training can strengthen the overall work environment. By addressing these areas, Musango Bus Service can improve its organizational culture and employee performance.
