Abstract
This study examines consumer perceptions of alcoholic brands, specifically focusing on Guinness Cameroon SA and Les Brasseries Du Cameroun in the Fako Division. Consumer perception plays a crucial role in shaping brand image and influencing purchasing decisions in the competitive alcoholic beverage market. This research aims to analyze how consumers perceive these brands, identifying key factors that contribute to their preferences and loyalty.
To achieve this, a mixed-methods approach was employed. A survey was conducted with 200 consumers in the Fako Division to gather quantitative data on their perceptions of the two brands. The survey included questions on brand awareness, brand attributes, quality, pricing, and marketing strategies. Additionally, in-depth interviews were held with 15 participants to gain qualitative insights into their experiences and opinions regarding the brands.
The findings indicate that brand awareness significantly influences consumer preferences. Most respondents recognized both brands, with Guinness having a slightly higher awareness level due to its strong marketing campaigns. Consumers associated Guinness with premium quality, while Les Brasseries Du Cameroun was viewed as more accessible and affordable. Quality perceptions were influenced by taste, packaging, and brand reputation.
Pricing emerged as a critical factor in consumer decision-making. While some consumers preferred Guinness for its perceived quality, many opted for Les Brasseries Du Cameroun due to its competitive pricing. Marketing strategies, including advertising and promotions, also played a significant role in shaping consumer perceptions. Respondents noted that engaging advertising campaigns increased their likelihood of purchasing the brands.
The qualitative data revealed that brand loyalty is influenced by personal experiences and social factors. Consumers expressed a preference for brands that align with their lifestyles and social circles. Peer recommendations and social interactions also affected their purchasing decisions.
The study recommends that both brands enhance their marketing strategies to reinforce positive consumer perceptions. For Guinness, focusing on maintaining its premium image while exploring more competitive pricing options could attract a broader audience. For Les Brasseries Du Cameroun, emphasizing product quality and innovation in marketing could strengthen its brand perception.
In conclusion, consumer perception significantly influences brand choice in the alcoholic beverage market. Understanding these perceptions helps brands like Guinness Cameroon SA and Les Brasseries Du Cameroun tailor their marketing strategies to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty in Fako Division.
