ABSTRACT

This study was titled the influence of drivers behavior on road safety measures in commercial fleets in amour mezam express.  Specifically, the study intended to  examine the prevalence of speeding and aggressive driving behavours among amour mezam commercial drivers, the impact of driver fatigue on road safety outcomes and the effectiveness of amour mezam current road safety training programs in modifying drivers behaviours.  the researcher adopted a mixed method combining quantitative and qualitative data collection which included primary sources and secondary sources. The researcher administered 30 questionnaires  to workers of amour mezam to be able to capture drivers behavior. data was analyzed using SPSS 20  and Microsoft 2010.

From the findings, the study revealed that drivers have aggressive behavours which are displayed among users (53.3%).  The results showed that a significant percentage of commercial drivers engaged in speeding and aggressive driving (83%), which poses serious risks to road safety and the well-being of other road users. Equally, Drivers fatigue was found to be a common issue among commercial drivers in amour mezam which significantly affect road safety outcomes (86.7%). Lastly, the results on the effectiveness of Amour Mezam’s current road safety training programs in modifying driver behaviors revealed mixed results as some drivers receive training while others do not.

The training sessions though limited were found to be repetitive and lacking practical application. Urgent interventions and targeted training programs are needed to address these behaviors and enhance road safety for all road users in Amour Mezam. The researcher recommended that drivers should undergo regular training sessions to enhance their skills and knowledge of safe driving practices, as well as actively participate in monitoring and feedback programs to improve their performance and contribute to a safer road environment for themselves and other road users.
