Abstract

Agricultural vocational training programs play a crucial role in equipping individuals with the skills needed for employment and entrepreneurship in the agricultural sector. This study explores the impact of innovative approaches in agricultural vocational training on the employability of graduates from Centers of Education and Community Action (CECA) in Cameroon. Given the importance of agriculture to Cameroon’s economy, the effectiveness of vocational training in this field is essential for addressing youth unemployment and fostering sustainable development.

The research adopts a mixed-methods approach, integrating quantitative surveys of graduates and employers with qualitative interviews of training instructors and program coordinators. The study assesses the extent to which innovation in training programs, including the integration of modern agricultural techniques, digital tools, and entrepreneurial skills, influences graduates’ readiness for the job market. It also examines how these innovations contribute to the relevance and adaptability of the training programs in response to the evolving demands of the agricultural sector.

Findings reveal that centers that have incorporated innovative practices into their agricultural vocational training programs tend to produce graduates with higher employability rates. These graduates are better equipped with practical skills, knowledge of modern agricultural methods, and the ability to use digital tools for farm management and marketing. Moreover, the inclusion of entrepreneurial training within these programs has empowered many graduates to start their own agricultural ventures, contributing to job creation within their communities.

However, the study also highlights challenges faced by some vocational centers, such as limited access to modern equipment, insufficient funding, and a lack of qualified trainers who are familiar with the latest agricultural innovations. These challenges can hinder the effectiveness of training programs and reduce the employability of graduates.

Based on these findings, the study recommends that policymakers and educational authorities in Cameroon prioritize the modernization of agricultural vocational training programs by investing in infrastructure, providing ongoing professional development for trainers, and fostering partnerships with agricultural enterprises to ensure that training remains relevant to industry needs. Additionally, the study suggests that greater emphasis should be placed on integrating entrepreneurship into vocational curricula to further enhance the employability and self-sufficiency of graduates.

In conclusion, innovation in agricultural vocational training is critical for enhancing employability among graduates and addressing unemployment in Cameroon. By overcoming the identified challenges and continuing to evolve training programs, Centers of Education and Community Action can better prepare individuals for successful careers in the agricultural sector.
