ABSTRACT

This study evaluates the performance management system (PMS) and its effectiveness in organizations, focusing on CDC Limbe, Cameroon. Effective performance management is crucial for enhancing organizational efficiency, employee productivity, and overall success. This research aims to assess how CDC Limbe implements its PMS, measure its effectiveness, and identify areas for improvement.

A mixed-method approach was used, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. Surveys were distributed to employees and managers at CDC Limbe to evaluate their experiences with the PMS, including goal setting, performance appraisal, feedback mechanisms, and development opportunities. Qualitative interviews with HR professionals and senior management provided insights into the design, implementation, and challenges of the PMS. Relevant literature on performance management systems was reviewed to contextualize the findings.

The findings indicate that CDC Limbe has established a structured PMS with clear performance goals, regular appraisals, and feedback processes. Employees generally perceive the system as fair and useful for personal development. However, challenges were identified, such as inconsistent application of performance criteria, limited feedback frequency, and insufficient training on the PMS. Employees also expressed concerns about the alignment of performance goals with organizational objectives and the effectiveness of the appraisal process.

The study concludes that while CDC Limbe’s PMS has positive elements, addressing the identified challenges is crucial for improving its effectiveness. Recommendations include standardizing performance criteria, increasing the frequency and quality of feedback, and providing comprehensive training for both managers and employees on the PMS. By addressing these areas, CDC Limbe can enhance its performance management practices, leading to improved organizational performance and employee satisfaction.
