Abstract

This study investigates the role of Plan International in addressing human rights violations in the South West Region of Cameroon from 1996 to 2021. Human rights violations have been widespread in this region, particularly during the ongoing socio-political crisis. This study examines the interventions of Plan International in mitigating these violations and promoting human rights.

The analysis focuses on Plan International’s efforts to protect vulnerable populations, including children and women, in the conflict-ridden region. The organization has implemented various programs aimed at promoting education, child protection, and access to healthcare. Through these initiatives, Plan International has played a critical role in supporting victims of human rights abuses.

Data for the study were collected through interviews, reports, and reviews of Plan International’s activities in the region. The research highlights the challenges faced by the organization in its mission to protect human rights. These challenges include limited access to conflict zones, inadequate funding, and difficulties in coordinating with local authorities.

Despite these obstacles, Plan International has achieved significant success in advocating for the rights of children and women. The organization’s efforts to provide education in crisis-affected areas, promote gender equality, and ensure child safety are notable contributions to the region.

The study also assesses the impact of Plan International’s work on reducing human rights violations in the South West Region. While progress has been made, the ongoing conflict and insecurity continue to hinder full realization of human rights for many in the region.

Recommendations include strengthening collaboration between Plan International and local government bodies to enhance the protection of vulnerable groups. Additionally, increased funding and international support are crucial to sustaining and expanding human rights initiatives.
