Abstract
The promotion of banking services plays a crucial role in enhancing customer acquisition, retention, and overall market competitiveness. This study investigates the promotion strategy employed by National Financial Credit Bank (NFC) in Buea, Cameroon. It aims to analyze how promotional activities contribute to increasing awareness, attracting new clients, and boosting the bank’s market presence in a highly competitive financial landscape.
A mixed-methods research approach was adopted, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative data. The qualitative component involved interviews with NFC Buea’s marketing and management staff to explore the promotional tools and strategies in place, including traditional advertising, personal selling, and digital marketing. Additionally, focus group discussions with customers provided insights into their perceptions of the bank’s promotional efforts. The quantitative aspect entailed a survey distributed to NFC customers to measure the effectiveness of the bank’s promotional strategies on customer behavior and loyalty.
Findings from the study indicate that NFC Buea employs a combination of promotional strategies, including media advertising (radio, television), social media marketing, and community engagement initiatives, to reach a diverse customer base. The bank’s involvement in local events and sponsorships has also bolstered its brand visibility and customer trust. However, the study reveals that while traditional promotion methods have been effective, there is room for improvement in digital marketing efforts, which are becoming increasingly critical for reaching younger, tech-savvy customers.
The analysis shows that customers respond positively to NFC’s community-oriented promotional activities, which align with the bank’s reputation as a trusted local financial institution. However, challenges such as limited digital presence, inconsistent promotional messaging, and the need for more targeted campaigns have been identified as areas that require attention to enhance promotional effectiveness.
In conclusion, NFC Buea’s promotion strategy has successfully leveraged traditional advertising and community engagement to build its brand and attract customers. To stay competitive in the evolving banking landscape, NFC must enhance its digital marketing efforts and adopt more innovative, data-driven promotional strategies. Future research could focus on the impact of targeted digital promotions on customer acquisition and retention in the Cameroonian banking sector.
