Every economy strives for economic growth in all aspects. The logistics industries in its different sections are areas that have enough influence on the economy of Cameroon. This study examines the effects of the logistics industry on the economy of Cameroon. Specifically, the study expanded to four different variables or industries which were the transportation sector, warehousing industry, procurement and the inventory management. The study adopted a descriptive survey where in data was collected from four different companies in Douala using 30 questionnaires. Data collected was analysed with the use of SPSS v20 and MS Word 2010. The findings on the effect of the logistics industry on the economy of Cameroon indicate a positive and significant impact. The logistics industry, encompassing transportation, warehousing, procurement, and inventory management logistics companies, plays a crucial role in facilitating trade, improving supply chain efficiency, and driving economic growth in Cameroon. The logistics industry, known as the artery of the national economy, is the basic industry and an important pillar to promote the development of the national economy. Logistic activities are extensively important for production and trade sectors. Manufacturing corporations procure raw materials, process these raw materials in the production operations and ship their products to the end users all thanks to logistic activities. It is the link and bridge between production and consumption and between urban and rural areas. Technological progress in the logistics industry also changes the mode of economic development and promotes the coordinated development of the regional economy. It depicts the flow of information from the origin of the raw material to the end point where the product is consumed, planning and controlling this process both in a productive and low-cost manner through storage and inventory facilities. The principal services of logistics are transportation, customs clearance, procurement, distribution, storage, handling, insurance, packaging, stocks and inventory management, customer relations management and customer specific services to the economy. This chapter is structured into the background to the study, statement of the problem, research variables (questions, objectives and hypothesis), significance of the study, scope and justification of the study.
The logistics industry can be defined as the science of obtaining, producing and distributing material and products to the correct place and in the correct quantity. Logistics enterprises provide a large and complete platform infrastructure for the improvement of industrial efficiency. The demand for the establishment of a large-scale, smart logistics industry system is becoming increasingly stronger. As an important part of the smart logistics industry, transportation not only increases the income of logistics enterprises but also contributes to the reasonable flow of production factors between regions. In order to reduce the logistics and transportation costs, some cities have realized cooperation with each other. They have continuously improved the technological level of the logistics industry by expanding the industrial scale within the region; building logistics infrastructure; establishing a regional logistics information platform; and improving the levels of science and technology, education, and culture to attract cross-regional investment and cooperation.
As a result of globalization, expanding international trade volume forced nations to increase their logistics capacities. Development of the logistics industry facilitated production, distribution and marketing, providing serious global competitive advantages to the nation that invested in the field. Accurate and active planning of logistic activities became a significant tool for countries to gain advantages in both costs and efficiency. Logistics, in the times that we live in, plays an active role in development and became an indispensable factor in trade.
Logistics entails a wide spectrum of services including flow of information and transportation and distribution of raw material resources to the end market where the commodities are consumed (Rodrigue, 2012). According to Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, which is the main global foundation for the logistics network, logistics management includes positive, active and productive planning, implementation and control of commodities, labor and related information from the starting point to the point of consumption (CSCMP, 2013). In this respect, the logistics system includes a structure related to the movement and distribution of the required infrastructure and various materials, financing, information flow in a country (Navickas et al. 2011).
Thus, it entails logistics investments by corporations in certain components such as several transportation networks, storage systems, information and communication tools, packaging services and financial supply chain management. Logistics investments have several outputs. However, it also has significant contributions such as integration with the trade and supply chain, better utilization of national transportation resources, creating new employment opportunities, and providing more competitive imports and low costs in exports. It is expected that the findings of the present study would guide national growth and development policies. It was considered that the use of a wide variety of variables would contribute significantly to the field literature.

The warehousing logistics industry in Cameroon plays a vital role in the country’s economy by facilitating the storage, handling, and distribution of goods. Cameroon is strategically located in Central Africa, making it a key hub for trade and commerce in the region. The warehousing logistics industry in Cameroon has experienced significant growth in recent years, driven by factors such as increasing consumer demand, expanding manufacturing sector, and growing international trade. As a result, there has been a rise in the number of inventory management companies operating in the country, offering a wide range of services to meet the diverse needs of businesses. However, the warehousing logistics industry in Cameroon also faces various challenges. One of the major challenges is inadequate infrastructure, including road networks, ports, and storage facilities. Limited access to reliable transportation and storage facilities can lead to delays, higher costs, and inefficiencies in the supply chain. Another challenge is the complex regulatory framework governing the warehousing logistics industry. Companies operating in this sector must comply with various regulations and obtain necessary permits and licenses. Navigating through these regulations can be time-consuming and costly for businesses. Furthermore, competition within the warehousing logistics industry in Cameroon is intense. Several local and international companies are vying for market share, offering competitive pricing and innovative solutions to attract clients. This competition puts pressure on companies to continuously improve their operations and provide value-added services to stay ahead. In light of these challenges and opportunities, conducting a study on a leading inventory management company like Logistique Distribution in Cameroon can provide valuable insights into the dynamics of the warehousing logistics industry. The study will not only shed light on the company’s operations but also provide a broader understanding of the industry’s impact on the local economy and business ecosystem.

Of recent, trade facilitation has become an important policy for supporting rain since inefficacy in trade facilitation has led to increasing costs and hinders the movement of goods across countries. As suggested by Kayode (2013) tariffs and non-tariffs have continued to restrict trade for low-income countries, however, their importance has decreased with improved logistics performance and positively impacting on international trade expansion in developing countries, especially exports. Trade performance is closely related to the quality of logistics services and consequently, efficiency in logistics has become a key element for increasing a country’s competitiveness and the backbone of trade support in a highly competitive world.
The logistic industry plays a vital role in the economy of Cameroon especially in the domain of imports and exports especially in Douala which is fast becoming a significant region for global trade flows which facilitates trading. Activities of the logistics industry reflect the country’s importance and the economy not only as a major base for export and import but also in the world market. The principal services of logistics are transportation, customs clearance, procurement, distribution, storage, handling, insurance, packaging, stocks and inventory management, customer relations management and customer specific services. This implies that the logistics industry should have significant effects on the economy of Cameroon especially in the aspects of transportation, warehousing and procurement. However, the economy of Cameroon has not been fully influenced or affected by the logistics company given its benefits and function. This triggers the researcher to study the effects of the logistics industry on the Cameroon economy in the aspects of transportation, warehousing and procurement.
