Abstract
Teacher productivity is crucial for achieving high educational standards, and sustainable motivational strategies are key to enhancing this productivity. This study examines the role of sustainable motivational strategies on teacher productivity in public primary schools within the Buea Municipality, Cameroon. The research aims to understand how various motivational approaches influence teacher performance and, consequently, student outcomes.
The study uses a descriptive survey design to collect data from primary school teachers and administrators through structured questionnaires and interviews. The research explores different motivational strategies, including financial incentives, professional development opportunities, recognition, and work-life balance initiatives. Teacher productivity is measured in terms of classroom effectiveness, student engagement, lesson planning, and overall job satisfaction.
Findings from the study indicate a significant positive relationship between sustainable motivational strategies and teacher productivity. Teachers who receive consistent recognition, opportunities for career growth, and adequate financial incentives tend to be more motivated, leading to higher levels of job satisfaction and productivity. The study also reveals that non-financial incentives, such as professional development and work-life balance, play a critical role in sustaining motivation over the long term. Teachers who perceive their work environment as supportive and conducive to personal growth are more likely to exhibit high levels of commitment and effectiveness in their roles.
However, the research also identifies challenges such as inadequate implementation of motivational strategies and a lack of resources to sustain these initiatives. Teachers expressed a need for more consistent and equitable application of motivational strategies across schools to ensure that all educators feel valued and supported.
The study recommends that educational policymakers and school administrators in Buea prioritize the development and implementation of comprehensive motivational strategies tailored to the needs of teachers. These strategies should include both financial and non-financial incentives, with a focus on creating a supportive work environment that fosters professional growth and job satisfaction. By adopting sustainable motivational strategies, public primary schools in Buea can enhance teacher productivity, leading to improved educational outcomes for students.
In conclusion, sustainable motivational strategies are essential for boosting teacher productivity. This study underscores the importance of a holistic approach to motivation that considers both financial and non-financial factors, ensuring that teachers remain engaged, effective, and committed to their roles in the long term.
