Abstract
This study explores the impact of training and development on organizational performance, focusing on the National Financial Credit Bank (NFCB), Kumba, Cameroon. In today’s rapidly evolving banking sector, the role of training and development in enhancing employee performance, improving productivity, and achieving organizational goals cannot be overstated. Banks that prioritize training programs ensure that their workforce stays competitive, skilled, and adaptable to the demands of the industry. The purpose of this research is to evaluate how NFCB’s investment in employee training and development affects its overall performance and growth.
The research employed a mixed-method approach, including both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. Data was gathered through structured surveys administered to employees at various levels of the bank, as well as interviews with management staff to understand the bank’s perspective on training programs. The study sought to measure employee satisfaction with the bank’s training programs, the relevance of the training to job roles, and the overall impact on job performance and organizational outcomes.
The findings of the study indicate that training and development significantly impact the organizational performance of NFCB Kumba. Employees who participated in training programs reported a noticeable improvement in their job performance, including enhanced skills, better decision-making abilities, and higher productivity levels. The research found that employees who received continuous training were more competent in their roles, which led to greater efficiency in service delivery, improved customer satisfaction, and a reduction in operational errors.
Additionally, the study identified that the development of soft skills, including communication, leadership, and problem-solving, positively influenced team dynamics and collaboration. Employees who were trained in these areas were more confident in their interactions with customers and colleagues, contributing to a more harmonious work environment. This improvement in interpersonal relations led to a noticeable boost in overall organizational performance.
Moreover, the study found that NFCB’s investment in leadership training programs helped in identifying future leaders within the organization. Employees who had the opportunity to develop their leadership and management skills were better able to manage teams effectively, make strategic decisions, and drive the bank’s goals. This had a positive effect on both employee morale and the achievement of organizational objectives.
However, the study also identified some challenges regarding the training and development programs at NFCB. Some employees expressed concerns about the limited frequency of training sessions and the absence of personalized programs that address specific departmental needs. In addition, the cost of training and the allocation of time for employees to attend these programs were also seen as barriers to maximizing the full potential of training and development initiatives.
In conclusion, this study confirms that training and development are critical to enhancing organizational performance in the banking sector. For NFCB Kumba to maintain its competitive edge and continue to improve its performance, it is essential for the bank to invest in regular, relevant, and tailored training programs. Recommendations for improving training effectiveness include increasing the frequency of sessions, aligning training programs with specific job roles and departmental needs, and ensuring that employees are given sufficient time and resources to attend these programs.
