Abstract

Promotional activities are essential to the successful marketing of new services, especially in a competitive market environment like Buea Municipality, Cameroon. This study explores the impact of promotion on the marketing of new services, focusing on how various promotional strategies influence consumer awareness, adoption, and loyalty. The research assesses the effectiveness of different promotional tools, such as advertising, sales promotions, personal selling, and digital marketing, in generating interest and driving customer engagement with new services in the region.

A mixed-methods approach was adopted, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative data collection methods. Qualitative data were gathered through interviews with marketing managers and executives from various service-oriented businesses in Buea, including telecommunication firms, financial institutions, and hospitality providers. These interviews provided insights into their promotional strategies for launching new services and the challenges they face in the market. On the quantitative side, surveys were administered to consumers across different demographics in Buea Municipality to evaluate how promotional activities influenced their awareness, perception, and acceptance of new services.

The findings indicate that promotion significantly impacts the marketing success of new services in Buea Municipality. Advertising, particularly through radio, television, and social media, emerged as a powerful tool in creating awareness and reaching a broad audience. Sales promotions, such as discounts and special offers, were effective in encouraging trial and adoption of new services, especially in the telecommunications and retail sectors. Personal selling and word-of-mouth promotion also played a crucial role in building trust and convincing hesitant consumers to try new services.

However, the study also reveals that the effectiveness of promotional activities can be hindered by factors such as limited budgets, poorly targeted campaigns, and inconsistent messaging. Consumers in Buea responded more positively to promotions that were clear, relevant, and provided tangible value. Additionally, digital marketing strategies, while increasingly popular, were less effective among older demographics who still rely on traditional media channels.

In conclusion, promotional strategies have a profound impact on the marketing of new services in Buea Municipality. Companies that effectively integrate a mix of advertising, sales promotions, personal selling, and digital marketing into their promotional campaigns are more likely to achieve higher consumer engagement and service adoption. Future research could explore the long-term effects of promotional activities on customer loyalty and service sustainability within the region.
