Abstract:

This study explores the impact of violence against women on the academic performance of children in the Yaounde VI Municipality. Violence against women is a pervasive issue that not only affects the victims but also has profound implications for the well-being and development of children. This research investigates how exposure to domestic violence and other forms of abuse against women influences the academic outcomes of children in this region. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study combines quantitative data from school records with qualitative insights from interviews with affected families, teachers, and social workers. The findings reveal that children who witness or experience violence in their homes are more likely to face academic challenges, including lower grades, absenteeism, and reduced participation in school activities. The psychological and emotional trauma associated with violence disrupts children’s ability to concentrate, learn, and engage with their peers, leading to a decline in academic performance. Additionally, the study highlights the role of socioeconomic factors, such as poverty and limited access to support services, in exacerbating the negative effects of violence on children’s education. The research underscores the urgent need for targeted interventions to address the consequences of violence against women on children’s academic performance, including counseling services, community awareness programs, and support for affected families. By providing a deeper understanding of the link between violence and educational outcomes, this study contributes to the broader discourse on the social determinants of academic success and the importance of creating safe and supportive environments for children.
